COOKING PROGRAM

HOW DOES IT WORK?
STEP 1
Planning meeting
The members gather to plan a menu around advertised specials in major food store flyer's. Each participant pays for his or her share of the food. This is calculated by dividing the total cost of the food by the number of servings required

STEP 2
Cooking session The members get together at a designated kitchen to prepare and cook the recipes. At the end of the cook, each member has several meals to take home and freeze for later, thus furthering healthy eating habits. Members share recipes, nutritional knowledge as they cook and everyone gains from each other’s enthusiasm. Some participants learn new recipes and are introduced to new foods contributing to a more balanced diet.

BIRTHDAY PROGRAM

Mandate: Bringing hope, joy and a sense of self-worth to homeless children with the gift of a birthday party. For a child experiencing homelessness, something as simple as a birthday party can seem miles out of reach. These children live under a blanket of stress, worry, depression, and sacrifice. On a daily basis, they go without.
These children are who we serve.
The child’s information is sent to us through children’s advocates, caseworkers and counselors through various forms of shelters and other programs.
Birthday-in-a-Box
In many cases, group birthday parties are not viable, so we provide a Birthday-in-a-Box. Birthday boxes are centered around a fun theme that is consistent with the child’s interests. A typical box has the following:
• Cake / Candles
• Decorations
• Party Game
• Gifts
• Birthday Card
• Juice and Cups / Juice Boxes
• Goody Bags
• Plastic Utensils
• Themed Napkins
• Themed Plates
• Party Hats
• Balloons
• Tablecloth
• Birthday Banner
